FSAs work in partnership for families’ and children’s wellbeing
Families come in all shapes and sizes. Being a parent is one of the most fulfilling things we’ll ever do: yet it is also one of the hardest and we can all do with a little help now and then.
I can offer you:
· A frontline face to answer everyday queries and concerns.
· On site independent and impartial information on any issues or concerns you have.
· Support in meetings both in school and with other agencies.
· Help with any paperwork or forms you may have to do.
· Signposting you to other services available.
· Supporting you with transition periods.
· Offering parenting and adult learning opportunities.
· Discussing special educational needs.
· Passing your views, praises and concerns to the school.
· Developing activities and opportunities to meet with other parents in the school including
weekly drop-ins/ regular newsletters and holiday activity information.
· I also offer support for service families including a monthly family activity group and we
are part of the city HMS Heroes.
· And lots more!
Feel free to contact me through the office, my mobile or by email:

Or come along to the parent sessions
on a Thursday 9-10am everyone is welcome!
The success of all our children depends to a large extent on the partnership between home and school. Every child needs our joint support in order for them to achieve their potential.
"The bond between a child and their parent is the most critical influence on a child’s life"
Here are some of the activities involving our FSA that have taken place recently.
A fond farewell to Ginny - December 2015
What a wonderful send off for Ginny at her farewell tea last week. Ginny was absolutely delighted to see so many parents, children and colleagues who had all come to say a huge thank you and goodbye. She will be greatly missed by everyone but we know that she will enjoy her well deserved retirement. The children had lots of ideas about how Ginny could spend her time! Ginny was serenaded by staff with a specially adapted medley of Beatles songs and was overwhelmed by the generous gifts from staff and especially from the parents. The children presented some beautiful cards to Ginny at her last assembly on Thursday and sang her favourite school songs. Ginny very kindly presented the school with a lovely selection of books, each with a dedication so that when children read them they will think of Ginny. Ginny has promised to come back for Decorations Morning next year so that she can get extra glittery, so we know she will keep in touch!
Goodbye and good luck Ginny, thank you for supporting everyone at Oakwood, we will all miss you!
Foundation Storytelling for children and parents - October 2015
In Reception, we have been enjoying Ginny’s storytelling sessions. She has told us 4 of her favourite stories over four weeks: What’s the Time Mr. Wolf? The Elephant and the Bad Baby, The Three Little Pigs and The Tiger Who Came to Tea. Ginny used lots of props to tell her stories and we had lots of opportunities to join in with the words and actions. Best of all, some of our grown-ups got to come too!
For our homework we drew a picture of our favourite fiction book. We also started talking about authors and illustrators, characters and settings.
Macmillan Coffee Afternoon
We would like to say a HUGE thank you for all of your help and support from buying tickets for the raffle to donating and buying cakes. Many families and staff came to enjoy the delicious array of cakes donated for coffee afternoon. We raised a final total of £350 for Macmillan Cancer Care. Thank you again from Ginny.

NATIONAL WINNERS - POPPY GARDEN COMPETITION
Oakwood Service Families won 1st prize for our Remembrance Poppy garden which we created in the summer. The competition was judged by the Blue Peter gardener who said “it was really difficult to choose a winner as the standard was so high but I felt Oakwood had really enjoyed the project, everyone looks so happy, especially the kids, a big well done!” Chris, Jayden and Jack were presented with a cheque for £250 at the celebrations at China Fleet Country Club. Well Done!
A special thanks to our Ginny and everyone involved with the Poppy Garden.
