Junior Ten Tors

Junior Ten Tors - 2017

Oakwood will, again, be taking part in Junior Ten Tors. 8 children from year 6 will be training through the next 2 terms in preparation for the event in June.

Orienteering and shoe towers!

For the first session the team built obstacle courses, which they then had to navigate around... blindfolded!

In June eight year six children will be taking part in Junior Ten Tors!

This involves walking to ten tors on Dartmoor over two days, which means a camp over night too!

The team have been training since January and will continue to do so until the event! Training involves team work skills, navigation practise and being aware of moorland dangers and rules.

Please follow our page for updates on our training, pictures and hopefully some videos too!

THE TEAM

My name is Florence. I really want to do the junior ten tors as it will be an amazing experience for me. I am really looking forward to camping in our tents on Dartmoor with all my friends, and I also can't wait for the long and tiring walk!
But I'm not looking forward to lots of muddy clothes and shoes!!!! I cant wait to use all of my map reading skills that I have been learning at club.

My name is Abi. I already enjoy walking my dog on the moors, therefore completing the Ten Tor challenge really appealed to me. I am especially looking forward to spending time with my friends, doing completely different activities outside the school environment. So far, we have had many training sessions to help us get ready for the big day in June- they include first aid, navigation, team building, orienteering and map reading skills. Let's hope the weather is kind to us, making this event really memorable

The weather was kinder to us today! We went to Higher Hartor Tor and to Disworthy Warren House, which is where War Horse was filmed!

We battled through awful weather on Thursday 19th May!

Go Outdoors! We visited Go Outdoors to buy all our essential equipment for training and the event. We are now kitted out and ready to go!

On Saturday some of the team went for a walk on Dartmoor. It was a fantastic day, the weather was fairly kind although slightly cold! We look forward to our next expedition when the rest of the team can join us!

For our first club night the children took part in team building activities, which included blindfolds, obstacles and a lot of laughter!
