Year 1 Badger

Keeping safe on social media.

As you are aware, e-safety is embedded in our curriculum to ensure all children are able to make the right choices to stay safe online and know who to ask if they have any concerns. In this digital age, some of you might have concerns or questions about the use of social media by your child. The poster above may be useful to give you some ideas for having that ongoing conversation with your child about staying safe on social media. It is from the popular blog ‘The Ultimate Parent Guide for Protecting Your Child on the Internet’ (if you type it into google it will come up), which is extremely informative and well worth a read. Other useful websites include www.saferinternet.org.uk and www.nspcc.org.uk.

Please do not hesitate to also speak to your child’s class teacher if you have any concerns or would like more information.

Writing an information text

In English this term, we are writing our own information text about a festival. To give us ideas and inspiration for wha activities could occur at our spring festival we made spring biscuits, a dafodil with tissue paper and colours and a flag to use in a spring dance.

We are now going to use our ideas to write our own information text for a spring festival!

The Great Fire of London homework

I was amazed when Badger class brought in their big build homework from over Easter. The children have completed some fantastic research on the event and made some excellent 3D models, information sheets, art pieces and powerpoints. Well done Badger Class!

Commotion in the Ocean

We have been looking at poetry in Badger class particularly focusing on rhyming couplets. We have thought about words that rhyme and we have enjoyed reading the 'commotion in the ocean' poetry anthology. Here is a video of our Talk 4 Writing shark poem recital ...

Life Education Caravan

We had a very exciting afternoon on Tuesday as we went into the Life Education Caravan. We learnt all about our wonderful body - how to keep healthy and learning some parts of the body. We even met Harold the Giraffe. Our favourite part of the session was when we were labelling parts of the body and they lit up!

Fluoride talk - Today Year 1 had a talk from a dental nurse about how to keep our teeth clean and how to brush our teeth. She showed us how to slide the toothbrush into your mouth and use circular movements to brush on a giant set of teeth! We also listened to a story about a giant's teeth.
