Sports Day

 

We had lots of fun in the sun in Badger Class on Sports Day. We took part in lots of events and our favourite event was the space hopper race.

Experimenting with colour

 

This term in Art, we have been experimenting with colour. We have used watercolours, ready mix paint and crayons to use and create different colours. We then showcased our work in a painting of our topic this term, 'Enchanted Woodland.' First we used crayons to draw the trees. Then we painted the trees in brown and we mixed colours to paint the leaves. After that we focused on the foreground, painting the grass and the path. 

 

Our artwork is now on display in our classroom!

This week we took part in the 'cosmic classroom' up in space. We watched a live video broadcast of Tim Peake in space. He answered lots of questions and showed us some really impressive experiments ... like this one below!

Training to be an Astronaut

 

This term, we are training to be astronauts. In our PE lessons we will be balancing, jumping, exercising, skipping and more ... to prepare ourselves to explore the Solar System.

We are working on our times tables this week. We are focusing on the 2, 5 and 10 times table.

Please practice these at home too!

 

Year 1 are practicing orally saying the 2, 5 and 10 times table in order up to 100!

 

Year 2 are practicing orally saying and writing down the 2, 5, 10 and 3 times table in and out of order up to 100!

 

e.g 2 x 5 = 10

Staying Safe on the Internet

Spellings

 

Each week your child will be given a list of spellings to learn.  We are focussing on spelling patterns including digraphs, split digraphs and trigraphs.  Spellings will be handed out every Friday and tested the following Friday.

Shapes

 

In Maths this week we have been learning about 2D shapes and their properties.  We have been sorting them according to different criteria and talking about their similarities and differences.

Doubles

This week in Mathematics we have been finding doubles. 

1 + 1=2  Double 1 is 2.

2 + 2 = 4   Double 2 is 4.

3 + 3 = 6   Double 3 is 6.

4 + 4 = 8   Double 4 is 8.

5 + 5 = 10   Double 5 is 10.

 

Year 2 have been doubling numbers over 10 including monetary values. How can you quickly work out the answer to doubling number. (Remember your partitioning!) 

 

Double 12 = 24

Double 15 = 30 

Double 22 = 44

 

Please help your child to learn these by heart as it will help with all aspects of Maths.

We are a class of 30 Year One and Year Two children.  

We have a teacher called Miss Larcombe.
