Sports for Schools
As well as being a fantastic physical experience, this fun-filled circuit training raised a whopping £1380.10. After we had covered the external costs, Oakwood benefited from a large amount which has been used to buy PE equipment such as new hurdles, speed-bounce mats and footballs. Alder class was heavily involved in the financial administration. We counted the money and recorded each person's contribution which made it much easier for the office to collate. It was a useful, practical context to our Maths work on money and helping the children learn the value of money.
Decorations Morning 2014
We hope you enjoyed the organized chaos that was Decorations Morning! Alder completed a series of creative activities that resulted in some lovely decorations to take home for Christmas and a silhouette city skyline calendar to put up in the kitchen. Thanks to all those brave adults who came into help and sorry for the trail of glitter that you are probably still vacuuming up!
We finished off our 'Potions' topic by mixing up some of the vilest concoctions known to mankind. Taking our cue from Roald Dahl's 'The Twits', we mixed plants, herbs, spices and colour dyes together in our own potion bottles to create some truly disgusting potions. If they hadn't smelt so disgusting and started to go mouldy we might have brought them home! This helped us to write a set of instructions for a potion which would change things for Cinderella and send her to that ball. Using Pie Corbett's 'Talk for Writing', we innovated bits to include more of our own ideas.
